چکیده

Most natural resource management is conducted under conditions of considerable uncertainty; rarely do we have 100% confidence that management actions will deliver the predicted outcome. Adaptive management is a scientific approach to management that explicitly deals with this uncertainty. It involves predicting management outcomes, collecting data to test those predictions (monitoring), revising the predictions and adapting the management strategy to reflect the new knowledge. In this session, we introduce adaptive management and describe three projects where this tool is applied to aquatic resources.

Adaptive Management of Rangeland Systems

Adaptive management is an approach to natural resource management that uses structured learning to reduce uncertainties for the improvement of management over time. The origins of adaptive management are linked to ideas of resilience theory and complex systems. Rangeland management is particularly well suited for the application of adaptive management, having sufficient controllability and redu...

Soil compaction assessment at different grazing intensities using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (Case study: Sabalan south eastern rangelands, Ardabil province)

Grazing intensity should follow the management roles to prevent the soil compaction. Soil compaction decreases plant root penetration so that at 2 MPa the root extension and above ground biomass will stop. In this research, digital penetrometer was used to assessment the soil compaction level in Sabalan region in Ardabil province caused by livestock. Grazing intensity and distance from villa...

An adaptive, comprehensive monitoring strategy for chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) in California's Aquatic Ecosystems.

A scientific advisory panel was convened by the State of California to recommend monitoring for chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) in aquatic systems that receive discharge of municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent and stormwater runoff. The panel developed a risk-based screening framework that considered environmental sources and fate of CECs observed in receiving waters across...

Growth hormone, functions and the ability to use it in ornamental fish

The growth hormone in fish is involved in most of the physiological processes in the body, including the growth of soft and hard tissues, protein metabolism, lipid and carbohydrate, ionic regulation and osmotic balance, reproductive function, and immune system. Since the study on the use of growth hormone in ornamental fish is not available, the present study aims to regulate neuroendocrine gro...
